Subject: University curriculum question
Only band, choir, and orchestra count as major ensembles at ESU. All music majors are required to participate in a major ensemble each semester they are full-time students. Scholarships students may have an additional ensemble depending on their scholarship.
Just my take on it (and I could be wrong), a jazz ensemble usually has a director, but like other small ensembles, does not need a conductor. Also, it is popular music. I don't mean that as a slam. I've played drums in a lot of rock and jazz groups, as well as in school organizations and the Kansas City Youth Symphony. [...]
