Subject: A big question for the SCI Hivemind - what our profession needs to do, in my opinion
Hi Dan,
Another wonderful conversation topic! It depends upon what is considered "cutting edge". There is beautiful, tonal music being written that I would consider cutting edge. There is also esoteric music that is trite and uncreative. I do think this is an issue of how quality is perceived.
To answer Dan's question, I believe the answer is no. There are composers writing breathtaking tonal music that touches people, which is always worth presenting. I also believe there are more edgy marvels being written very worthy of performance and study as well. [...]
