Subject: Composition degree advice
At Hong Kong Baptist University, we have ALL students take a course in Contemporary Composition Techniques at the beginning of their sophomore year, and a music technology class at the same time. In the second semester of that year, the composition concentrators do an additional semester of music technology, and begin a series of three semesters of group composition classes. In the junior year these group classes continue, and they take two semesters of electro-acoustic composition simultaneously. In their final year, they have private weekly hour-long lessons, and have the option of taking up to two additional semesters of electro-acoustic composition. There are also separate courses for orchestration and the like. So that's a minimum of 8 Composition courses, plus 2 music technology, and maybe as many as 10. If we get students entering as sophomores or juniors (and we do), they have to double up on group classes unless they can show a co-requisite. Hope this helps.
