For the "Heirlooms" project, the five featured composers composed new works for flute, viola, and harp, inspired by their children.  The works center around their lives with their children, ranging from story time to playtime to bedtime, from exuberant energy to quiet tenderness, and expressing the often complex dynamics of family relationships.  The new compositions share themes of memory, the passing of time, and the stories we tell to and about our children.  The works explore an experience that is at once deeply personal and widely shared, and the concert title "Heirlooms" reflects the sense that the composers have tried to capture the love they feel for their children, to give it form and pass it down to them.
