Subject: Premier of new work Monday, May 20
Hello Friends,
On Monday, May 20, 2013 at 7:30 pm The Maple Ave. Middle School 6th and 7th grade band under the direction of Andrew Janack will premier my latest composition, Facets of Pele.
Facets of Pele is a concerto for young band and professional bass trombone. Mr. Michael Meidenbauer will be the soloist for this performance.
Facets of Pele celebrates Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire, lightning, dance, and volcanoes. The solo trombone takes the role of the kumu hula, the teacher of hula, leading the band through the piece. The work includes authentic Hawaiian rhythms and melodies including Aia Lä `O Pele I Hawai`i (Pele Is At Hawai`i) and Ke Ao Nani (The Beautiful World), a traditional song in honor of the children.
I think you’ll find this to be an imaginative and innovative work for middle school band.
515 Maple Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
Thanks,
Brett L. Wery Professor of Music, School of Music, Schenectady County Community College Music Director, Capital Region Wind Ensemble (518)381-1234 werybl at sunysccc.edu
