hi wally, ? do you know my work on vimeo; if not, look and listen, and if you like and would like me to use a work of yours in one of my creations, I need recordings of music between 7 and 11 mins long, longer rather than shorter. ? ciao, ? nancy
Hi Colleagues!
Through many years, I have collected a drawer full of rejection letters, concerning my contest submissions. Usually, there is a form letter without notice about one's standing. ?Frequently, there is nothing at all, so you wonder who won;? you KNOW who lost! ?
Last week, I received an envelope from David Katz, the principal judge of the American Prize competition. ?The envelope contained?my submission to the American Prize National Competition. ?'O?well,' I thought, 'another loss.' Au contraire, there? were two other items in a separate envelope; one was a very?kind letter of congratulation for being a semi-finalist,? and the other was a beautiful certificate of merit!?
The American Prize is the most sophisticated contest that I've ever entered; it is CLASS! ?My entry was #327, so the contest entries must have been voluminous. ?Being a semi-finalist in The American Prize, is a great honor; however, what I appreciate nearly as?much?is the consideration I have been given. ?Past experience taught me that composers rarely are given? any consideration at?all for the hours they spend composing, editing and preparing for a contest; then they pay the ever rising? cost of postage, to and from, the contest address.
Competing in the American Prize National Competition requires a hefty fee; however, entering a piece is worthwhile, even? if you may?not win. ?I will enter this competition again, the next opportunity that I have.
Good luck, if you follow suit,?
Walli
