I stopped composing for other composers so long ago (well over 30 years ago) that it no longer even enters my mind as possible motivation for anything I write, so I am in complete agreement with the last sentence of your reply to William.
But I think you miss the main point of his encouraging composers to consider planning to attend more than just their own performance as they make travel arrangements to attend a composers conference -- especially an SCI event. The first word in name of this organization is "Society" after all. [...]
