Subject: Question about indicating a string on the viola
David - the only notation I am familiar with that is similar to what you want would be a bracket over a selected passage indicating to play the included notes in one position [so - no shifts, but not string specific]. Not sure if that helps you in this instance, but I am also curious as to what other string players may prefer.
