Subject: Clarinets for Conservation Clarinet Quartet 3/17/14
Schenectady County Community College is delighted to host Clarinets for Conservation on Monday, March 17, 2014 in Schenectady, NY. The C4C Quartet—Ian Tyson, Mark Fugina, Debbie Larsen, and SCCC alum, Michele Von Haugg—will play an evening concert at 7:30 PM in the Taylor Auditorium on the SCCC campus.
The performances will feature classical and contemporary works for clarinet quartet by Jean Francaix, Alfred Uhl, and my recent composition "Four World Variants." In addition, members of the quartet will share stories of their work with the students of Korongoni Secondary School in Moshi, Tanzania.
Founded in 2010, Clarinets for Conservation provides an interdisciplinary approach to sustainability through music education. Clarinets for Conservation introduces the clarinet and classical music to Tanzanian students and helps them plant trees that will in time become a valuable asset to their community. Students of the program serve a vital role in educating their families and community members about the importance of protecting natural resources.
