Subject: A big question for the SCI Hivemind - what our profession needs to do, in my opinion
I don't want to weigh in negatively on what seems to many to have been a positive and fruitful discussion, but allow me to offer a contrary point of view.
Isn't the desire to tell other people what to think about music itself a "modernist" impulse? I can't help but notice that utterly absent from this discussion are the words "listeners" and "audience."
Love of music is and has always been a matter of taste. You might find a way to get like-minded composers (who control very little in the artistic world) to sign a mutually-satisfying Statement of Aesthetic Indifference, [...]
