Subject: Tonight in Dallas - String Quartet ...a smoldering wick...
For those in the Dallas area and free this evening, I invite you all to a free concert by SMU's new music ensemble, SYZYGY, and guests Duo Scordatura and the Cezanne Quartet, who will present a concert with four world premieres linking commissioned painting and commissioned music inspired by those paintings. Also on the program will be my most performed chamber work: "String Quartet: ... a smoldering wick..." (In Memorium, Witold Lutoslawski - 1994). (sorry for the late notice - it was just added) I had the opportunity to work with this master prior to his death and was scheduled to research/work in Krakow under a Fulbright grant, but his death came before I could do so. This work was written for, and premiered on, the memorial concert in Krakow that spring, and since has been performed by numerous quartets around the world. The Cezanne Quartet has been the ensemble in residence at SMU this past year, and this marks the closing performance of their residency.
The concert is tonight, Saturday April 22, 2017, 7:30 PM at SMU's O'Donnell Recital Hall and is free admission.
