Subject: Release of my recording "Piece by Piece"
Dear Fellow Composers, I would like to announce the digital release of my chamber music work Piece by Piece for flute, bass Clarinet, trumpet, bass trombone, violin, contrabass and percussion recorded by the Moravian Philharmonic Chamber Players by Parma Recordings on the Ravello Label. The recording is available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. This work was originally commissioned by the Erick Hawkins Dance Company, NYC and the instrumentation is one used by Alan Hovhaness for a work he wrote for the Hawkins Company. In Piece by Piece I am paying homage to Lucia Dlugoszewski, former composer, music director and artistic director for the Hawkins Company, by using some instrumental techniques she made famous, although this is not stylistically like her work. She once told me hat she “hated melody.” I can’t say I feel the same way. The midi version is on my SCI Webpage and its interesting to hear the timbral difference between that version and the chamber players version. If you get a chance, please take a listen.
