Subject: PhD in Composition and Computer Technologies at UVA!
Greetings All,
The University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music invites applications for the PhD in Composition and Computer Technologies (CCT). Generous five-year fellowships and teaching assistantships are available to a select number of qualified applicants. The program emphasizes the integration of acoustic and computer-based composition, with ample opportunities in technology research and multimedia. We are currently in the process of augmenting our faculty in the area of engineering/music applications. PhD students complement their composition and computer music studies with courses in topics such as analysis, critical theory, conducting, orchestration and performance. In addition, they can draw on the excellent academic resources in other departments of the University of Virginia, as well as our outstanding library resources. Performance opportunities are provided by visiting and resident ensembles and faculty performers, and on annual concert programs. Visiting ensembles have included Da Capo Chamber Players, the Dither Guitar Quartet, Talujon Percussion Quartet and Voxare String Quartet, among others.
To be considered for admission with funding, complete applications must be submitted by December 15. More information is available at http://www.virginia.edu/music/gradstudy/apply.html and http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/grad/admission/
For application details, see http://www.virginia.edu/music/gradstudy/
To discuss the program further, please contact Judith Shatin (shatin at virginia.edu), Matthew Burtner (mburtner at virginia.edu) or Ted Coffey (ejc3q at virginia.edu).
All Best,
Judith
