Here is my 2¢, from someone with tenure, two promotions, a Distinguished Professor appointment, and more terms of service on school, college, and university P&T committees than I care to remember.
I think publishing, at least as it used to be understood, is not a very useful yardstick for composers these days. It's not that it's difficult to achieve. It's just that (with *very* few exceptions) a list of publications contributes practically nothing significant to process of evaluating a composer. [...]
