dear Shirley,
What a treat to see you featured on the SCI Composer of the Day page. It's probably three years since your excellent tutorials (what else would one call them?) on harp notation.
I really liked your waltz, and thought that there is nothing quite like having a free-thinking practitioner show some of what she knows about her instrument. You really use and show off the outer reaches of the harp, and those rip-roaring, fast-moving glissandi are marvelous. The score for the Fantasy shows that you are full of ideas for both the harp and the viola- with a little help from the hardware store.
On a day during which I heard a live performance of the Ligeti Piano Concerto (first heard with Aimard at Ojai, a few years ago) and played a solo program, your page on SCI comes as a terrific finis.
best wishes,
Elizabeth Lauer zuckerbaby17 at centurylink.net <mailto:zuckerbaby17 at centurylink.net>
