Two chamber operas by Martin Halpern, “The Sculpture” and “The Hour Glass,” will be given fully staged productions at the Penthouse 2 Theater, Shetler Studios, 244 West 54th Street, 13th floor, on Thursday, October 15, Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17 at 8 PM, and on Sunday, October 18 at 3 PM. Freely based on plays by Henrik Ibsen and W.B. Yeats, each opera centers on a dream scene in which a successful and admired man – a sculptor in the first opera and a theology professor in the second – is visited by a female character who makes him confront regrets and self-doubts that rankle in his unconscious mind. When each awakes from the dream, he faces conscious reality with a deepened awareness of his true state. Featured in the productions are baritone Jim Trainor, soprano Alisa Peterson and pianist Earl Buys. Stage direction is by Jamibeth Margolis, stage management by John Alden Hooper, and music direction by the composer. Admission, at twenty dollars, is available at the door, which is reached by taking the elevator to the twelfth floor and climbing the stairs to the thirteenth floor. For reservations, e-mail marhalp2 at gmail.com<mailto:marhalp2 at gmail.com>. Tickets are also available, at reduced rates, through TDF.
