Subject: 2015 SCI/ASCAP Student Composition Contest Update
Greetings All,
It’s been rewarding to serve as the SCI-ASCAP Student Competition Coordinator. This year’s competition had 188 submissions (73 undergraduate + 115 graduate), so it’s also been a bit daunting at times. However, I was fortunate to assemble an outstanding panel of adjudicators from within the ranks of SCI to donate their time, energy, and expertise to this enterprise. Virtually all of them commented on the impressive strength of the submissions in both categories. These colleagues deserve heartfelt thanks from everyone in the organization … and their very own “thank you” email to the listserve (forthcoming).
But … without further ado, here are the commission winners for the 2015 SCI/ASCAP Student Composition Contest, along with a few well-deserved honorable mentions in each category. Hearty congratulations to all!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Undergraduate Competition:
Commission Winner: Jaehyuck Choi (Violin Concerto)
Honorable Mentions (alphabetical order) Joseph Bohigian (5:1) Katerina Gimon (Elements) Ryan Lindveit (Short Stories) Matthew Schultheis (Deus Ex Machina)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Graduate Competition:
Commission Winner: David Clay Mettens (Sleeping I am carried…)
Honorable Mentions (alphabetical order) Yie Eun Chun (Urban Polyphony) Pierce Gradone (Chronotopes) Charles Peck (Metropolitan) Patrick O’Malley (Symphonic Poem - Even in Paradise) Roydon Tse (Three Musings - a triptych for chamber orchestra)
