Subject: Load-credit Calculation for Lessons
Hi all,
I am currently chairing the Music Department at Manchester University (in Indiana) and we have a new dean this year. Our dean is reviewing the way faculty load credit for one-on-one lessons (composition, voice, flute, piano, etc...) is calculated and seems to feel that we are getting too much load credit for our lessons.
Many of you on this list teach composition at a college or university and I would very much appreciate information on how your institution calculates load credit for lessons.
My university's current policy is that we receive one hour of load credit for every three students in our studios. Our lessons are technically 1/2 hour each (meeting once per week), although we usually go much longer.
In advocating for the faculty in my department, it would help me to make a stronger case if I can point to examples at other institutions.
To avoid filling everyone's inbox, please reply to me directly. I will summarize the information and send it back out to the list in case it may useful for others.
Thank you!
Tim
